The Mahamitr Group, spearheaded by Allianz Ayudhya Assurance, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Chulalongkorn University's Chula Zero Waste project, Mae Fah Luang Foundation, MBK, Siam Piwat, Siam Motors Group, Sivatel Bangkok Hotel, and Bank of Ayudhya, as members of the 'Mahamitr' (Alliance for Sustainability), promotes waste separation to stop dumping trash unsorted for efficient waste management. The grand event THINK Throw…Life in the heart of the city brings art to inspire awareness, consciousness, and behavioral change towards environmentally friendly practices among urban dwellers.
Patchara Taveechaiwattana, Chief Customer Officer at Allianz Ayudhya, representing the Mahamitr group, said that the 'Mahamitr' group was formed from the collaboration of various private and public organizations in the Pathumwan district of Bangkok, aimed at achieving shared sustainability. This initiative builds sustainability from within the organizations to expand externally. Although each allied unit has different business objectives, their common major goal is to create sustainability for the world in various aspects, starting with waste management in their organizations. This led to the Pathumwan Zero Waste project, promoting waste separation for efficient management, especially among entrepreneurs and residents in the Pathumwan area, aiming to minimize waste to landfills. As part of the campaign to broaden waste separation awareness, this year we've extended it to the THINK Throw...Life event to reflect the waste situation caused by our disposal behaviors and to show solutions through behavioral change, emphasizing the importance of 'waste separation' at both household and organizational levels.
The THINK Throw... Life event aims to reflect the 'careless' behavior that leads to numerous problems in Thai society, including the 'waste issue.' This event is organized to loudly proclaim to everyone, 'Stop being careless,' 'Let's separate our waste.' Because the waste problem will never solve itself, if people do not contribute. Moreover, everyone's 'disposal' impacts someone’s 'life'. If we 'think' before we 'dispose,' we can significantly change lives. Whether we dispose to 'create' life, to 'cultivate' life, to 'help' life, or to dispose to ... life, it's up to all of us.
The event features exhibitions and activities providing knowledge suitable for all genders and ages, aiming to change everyone's disposal behavior. There is a simulated landfill and a real-life experience of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's waste collectors. Starting with the 'Change of Heart' room, which will address doubts and dismantle beliefs about why separate waste if it ends up mixed anyway. Followed by the Throw...Life' activity, where you can step into the shoes of a waste collector, facing challenges you may never have known. Next is 'Bangkok's Choices,' a tool that makes your waste separation valuable, and the 'Swoop Buddy' fashion exchange community.
Additionally, the event is honored by the participation of 7 leading contemporary Thai artists, Khun Wishulada Punthanuvong, Khun Jirayu Tantrakul, Khun Ek Thongprasert, Khun Pongsathat Uaiklang, Khun Pratchaya Charoensuk, Khun Patipat Chaiwitesh, Khun Piyapa Vichiansan, and Khun Chalocha Ninthummachart from A Thing that is Pieces, who together create artworks from unwanted surplus materials. Also featuring Bigdel, a renowned graffiti and street artist, who contributes to the creation of the event's mascot.
“Allianz Ayudhya Assurance, as the leader of the Mahamitr group, is highly committed to organizing the ‘THINK Throw...Life’ event, as the waste problem is an urgent issue, yet a matter that can be resolved if everyone collaborates. We invite all to this event to see, to acknowledge, and to understand how 'disposing' (affects) 'lives' (of ours and others') in order to change behavior. Start separating waste and stop dumping unsorted from today, and the quality of life for us and everyone will certainly improve,” Patchara concluded.
The ‘THINK Throw...Life’ event will be held from November 14th to 26th, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at the outdoor area in front of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Lotus Pond connecting to the BTS National Stadium Station, and the Meeting Point at MBK Center. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
